HOW YOU MAKE AN IMPACT

Exciting opportunity to work s as part of the machine shop department taking direction from the shop supervisor and/or the group leader. Provides in-process inspection checks and documentation. Works closely with the shop Inspector and manufactures parts that meet or exceed Ferrotecs’ workmanship standards. Standards include a high level of cosmetic emphasis on all piece parts manufactured within the machine shop. Provides labor transactions on the business operating system. May be required to have personal tools calibrated based on inspection/calibration policies. Safety shoes and safety glasses with side shields are required.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Sets up and operates various pieces of machine shop equipment with detailed instruction and direction

  • Machines components to high-quality standards and tolerance requirements of +/- .002 to +/- .005 inches Possesses a basic understanding of ANSI Y14.5

  • Understands and optimizes proper feeds and speeds

  • Possesses a personal set of machinist/inspection tools that will be compatible for close tolerance measuring of various lengths and diameters

  • Maintains a clean and safe work area and complies with the company’s safety requirements

  • Meets time estimates as assigned to each job

  • May handle hazardous wastes at satellite storage areas

  • Participates in Hazard Communication and Hazardous Waste Management training as required to comply with state and federal regulations within six months of hire and annually thereafter

  • Works with most types of conventional machines or 2 axis CNC lathes, various metals, and plastics that are common to the machining and metal working trade

  • Sets up machine components with minimal assistance

  • Machines components to high-quality standards and tolerance requirements of +/- .001 inches, or +/- .0001 inches using abrasive machining techniques

  • Possesses a strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5. Optimizes set up techniques, which include proper feeds and speeds

  • Shares expertise with less experienced machinists

  • Works with all types of conventional machines or 4 axis CNC lathes, various metals, and plastics that are common to the machining and metal working trade

  • Develops methods, sets up, and machines components to high-quality standards and tolerance requirements of +/- .0002 inches

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • Very experienced in turning, can program Mazak equipment

  • Has turning and milling experience

  • Has GD&T experience, can inspect own product to ensure meets print

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • 10+ years of machining experience or a combination of technical school training and demonstrated process development

  • Excellent communication skills and being a team player are essential to being successful in this role

    Physical & Environmental requirements:

  • A typical day requires continuous sitting and/or standing in machine shop with occasional breaks. Standing and walking around 100k sq. ft. facility extensively throughout the day

  • Able to comfortably lift 35 pounds without injury

  • Occasionally ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like

  • Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces

  • Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods

  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another

  • Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 100 pounds in all directions

  • Constantly communicating with others to exchange information

  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers

  • Occasionally operating machinery and/or power tools

  • Constantly assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned

  • Occasionally subjected to low temperatures and high temperatures

  • Occasional sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing
