Los Alamos National Laboratory Tool Room Attendant (Facility Maintenance Tec 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Facilities Maintenance Tec 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Position Overview

The Tool Room Attendant (Facility Maintenance Tec) position will be in the Logistics Central Shops (LOG-CS). The successful candidate will provide high level customer service while distributing tools and materials to Logistics employees. Further expressing customer service by addressing inquires, resolving issues and proactively communicating updates. Develop and maintain relationships with both internal and external customers generating open dialog regarding services rendered.

Safety and security is the primary responsibility for all Laboratory employees. Maintain required safety and security training, assures safety and security compliance, and makes safety and security an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.

Facilities Maintenance Tec 2 ($52,400 - $80,600)

The successful candidate will:

  • Help ensure the safety and reliability of Facility operating equipment related, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical systems.

  • Assist in monitoring calibrated tools and equipment deficiencies.

  • Assist with inspection of all tools for visual damage prior to issuance and receipt from employee(s) and keep all inspection and calibration records on file.

  • Assist with notifying supervisors, manager's, directors, and anyone else needing the information to remind employees of tools requiring inspection or calibration.

  • Conduct periodic tool inventories.

  • Familiarity with tracking systems and inventory programs.

  • Is familiar with and adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to facility equipment maintenance and operations.

  • Ensures all results, materials, processes, and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.

  • Fosters a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.

  • Assist with the M&TE Calibration program and be able to work with Indi Soft software program.

  • Assist with the Welding program participating in issuing welding rod and be familiar with documents.

  • Assist with preparing Tool Order documents.

Facilities Maintenance Tec 3 ($57,800 - $89,500)

In addition to what was outlined above, the Facilities Maintenance Tec 3 will be required to:

  • Have Extensive knowledge and experience in a customer service environment

  • Working knowledge of inventory management systems

  • Ability to evaluate processes, programs, and procedures for potential improvements.

  • Experience in leading and facilitating safety initiatives and programs.

  • Ability to manage and operate a mobile tool distribution program.

What you Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience working in a customer service environment.

  • Basic knowledge and limited experience in facility maintenance activities including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, and chemical processing systems.

  • Basic knowledge of dimensional, physical, and/or electrical calibrations.

  • Knowledge/understanding of work hazards safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag­ out policies and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate basic elements of facility equipment and maintenance and/or upgrade activities to others.

  • Experience in preparation of test-measurement results.

  • Basic knowledge of facility/operational policies, practices, and procedures.

Additional Job Requirements for Facilities Maintenance Tec 3:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Extensive knowledge, experience working in a customer service environment.

  • Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problems areas, investigating alternative solution, and determining action to be performed.

  • Demonstrated experience in multitasking, customer service and conflict management.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions and multiple customers.

Education/ Experience at lower level: Position requires a high school diploma and 1 - 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education/ Experience at higher level: Position requires a high school diploma and 2 - 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At this level, additional training, certification, and/or education may be desirable.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
